Wrestling Cheat Sheet
The Format
Three periods - 1 minute each. (high school wrestling matches are 2-2-2)
Wrestling Positions
Neutral- both wrestlers are on their feet, neither has control
Referee’s(Down)- one wrestler is on his hands and knees in a defensive position
Referee’s(Top)- one wrestler is in control of the wrestler in the defensive position
Scoring Points
Takedown- Defined as taking opponent from feet to mat. This is worth 2 points.
Escape- Defined as escaping opponent's control and facing him. This is worth 1 point.
Reversal- Defined as coming from mat, and taking opponent to mat, in a single move/move combo. This is worth 2 points.
Nearfall- Points gained when opponent's back/shoulders break the 45 degree plane with respect to the mat for a duration of time. A 2-4 count awards you 2 points while a 5 count awards you 3 points.
The Objective
There are three basic victory conditions in a wrestling match:
1. Pinning your opponent (Win By Fall)
2. Scoring more points than your opponent in the time allotted (Win By Decision)
3. Scoring 15 points more than your opponent at any point during the match (Win By Technical Fall)

Unsportsmanlike Conduct: Swearing, Striking, Unnecessary Roughness
